Banners and Buttons

When most people consider advertising online, banners and buttons are the first thing that comes to mind. And there's a good reason for it. Banners have proven to be an incredibly effective brand builder -- even without taking into consideration click-through rates. And they're especially effective when they are placed on relevant information pages.

Banner Specifications
 •  Artwork Size - 468w x 60h pixels (IAB standard) for banners and 120w x 60h for buttons
 •  ALT Text - Must be provided and cannot exceed 50 characters (including spaces and punctuation).
 •  Linking URL - An active linking URL must be provided and cannot exceed 128 characters.
 •  File Size - Banners must be 12.0k or less.
 •  Format - Static or animated GIFs, Image maps and HTML.
 •  Animation - GIF89a is the standard animation format; loop with a refresh time of no less than two seconds. There is no limit to the amount of times that an animation can repeat. Creative should not include transparent backgrounds and frame disposal should be set to "do not dispose".
 •  Testing - All creative must function uniformly on both Mac and PC platforms as well as multiple browser versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer.
 •  Deadlines - A lead time of 3-4 business days prior to the campaign start date is required for all creative, except for HTML and Rich Media ads which require 4-6 business days lead time.
 •  Submissions - Send all creative and rotation instructions via e-mail to your Metropolitan Media Inc. sales contact(s). No more than 5 rotations per opportunity are accepted.

HTML Forms
 •  Images - Submit no more than five images totaling less than 12.0K for banners.
 •  Source Code - All HTML form ACTIONS must be of type "GET".
- HTML text must be less than 2500 characters.
- All URLs are limited to a 128 character limit.
- Metropolitan Media Inc. reserves the right to edit HTML elements which may adversely affect our sites.
Please be advised that Metropolitan Media Inc. will replace the ACTION field with Metropolitan Media Inc. tracking info, and will forward any form inputs to your CGI script. All destination sites should be activated upon submission.
 •  Form Elements - Form elements (drop-down menus, radio buttons, etc.) may not link to the client site without the aid of a submit button or image.
- Please limit drop-down menus to 20 selections.
- Drop-down menus and search boxes should be designed using default browser fonts.
Any form elements (drop-down menus, search-boxes, etc.) which causes the ad to exceed its height or width specification on any platform or browser will be returned to the client for revision.
 •  Deadlines - A lead time of 4-6 business days prior to the campaign start date is required for HTML ads.
 •  Submissions - Send all creative and rotation instructions via e-mail to your Metropolitan Media Inc.sales contact(s). No more than 5 creative rotations per opportunity are accepted.

Image Maps - (Available for Banners)
 •  Linking URLs - Active linking URLs must be provided for all specified coordinates and cannot exceed 128 characters.
 •  Shape and Coordinates - Shape type (i.e. RECT, POLYGON, CIRCLE) and coordinates must be provided. Please submit coordinates in the following format:

*Note: Image maps will be created as Client Side image maps. There are many graphics programs that can help you find coordinates or make client side image maps.

 •  Testing - All creative must function uniformly on both Mac and PC platforms as well as multiple browser versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer.
 •  Deadlines - All associated banner images and HTML must be delivered to Metropolitan Media Inc. 4-6 business days prior to campaign start date. Any banner not conforming to the above specifications will not be implemented and will result in a delayed start date.
 •  Submissions - Send all creative and rotation instructions via e-mail to your Metropolitan Media Inc. sales contact(s). No more than 5 creative rotations per opportunity are accepted.
